EXPERIENCE

October 1992 to December 2002 - Capacity Planner, Performance and Tuning Systems Programmer, Statistical Reporting - Fidelity Investments, Irving, Texas

Responsible for analyzing the capacity of various systems and subsystems including remote copy for Disaster Recovery, monitoring and analysis of silo image patterns and silo dataset candidate selection. Responsible for analyzing the capacity for CA/Sterling VTAPE including dataset selection, cache sizing, resource requirements and backstore drive requirements. Size bandwidth for remote copy using CNT DS3 lines. Compiled data to prepare graphs, charts and reports that were used in presentations to all levels of management. Initially used SAS/GRAPH but later used EXCEL, PowerPoint, SAS, MXG as well as developed custom programs that processed raw SMF/RMF and data from other sources.

Sized workloads for internal and outside customers that were to be incorporated into the Data Center. Processed SMF data for Disaster Recovery capacity requirements. Performed the responsibilities of a MICS administrator.

September 1988 to July 1992 - MICS Administrator, Performance and Tuning Systems Programmer, Resource Management Accounting Utilization and Chargeback - Perot Systems/NCNB/FirstRepublic Bank, Dallas Texas

Responsible for MICS administration, capacity planning, CPU and DASD performance, tuning and resource management, Data Center chargeback and client billing systems, workload analysis and workload distribution across multiple operating system images. Responsible for defining and adjusting performance control values in SYS1.PARMLIB IPS, ICS and OPT members, MDF LPAR configurations, performance and capacity reports and graphs, SMF data capture processes and hardware upgrades.

Installed software products including MICS base, MICS VCC/VCA DASD component, MICS IMS/LDE and OMEGAMON/Epilog and used these to measure the performance and tune the system. Installed the SAS programming language and wrote statistical reports.

Designed, coded and implemented a billing system that calculated charges, billed clients for processor, DASD and tape cartridge usage and generated management reports.

Utilized software tools to monitor CPU, shared DASD and client application system performance. Made improvements to tune the environment, eliminate contention and bottlenecks. Performed workload analysis and distributed workloads for processor upgrades.

Developed a system that input prospective outsource clients raw SMF/RMF data and produced resource utilization reports to plan capacity requirements when merging outsource client workloads into Data Centers facilities. Produced reports that were used as the basis for negotiating client service level agreements. Monitored availability, the quality of data center operations and, measured conformance to client service level agreements.

Designed and supported the SMF/RMF data collection process for multiple data centers all of which executed multiple system images.

November 1985 to September 1988 - MICS Administrator, Performance and Tuning Systems Programmer, Capacity Planner - Dresser Industries (Haliburton), Dallas, Texas

Benchmarked processor upgrades. Analyzed processing requirements in conjunction with converting from MVS/SP to MVS/XA. Analyzed the feasibility of converting a user-written billing system to MICS Accounting system software. Designed, maintained and produced daily, monthly and quarterly capacity and performance reports. Supported MICS and MICS/TSOMON component. Installed and maintained new SAS releases.

September 1984 to November 1985 - Capacity Planning, Performance and Tuning Systems Programmer, MICS Administrator - Parkland Hospital, Dallas, Texas

Initial person assigned to the role of Capacity Planner, Performance and Tuning System Programmer and MICS Administrator at the installation. Planned, organized, actuated and controlled these functions for the Data Center. Installed the installation’s first MICS release, defined the parameters and the data capture processes.

Installed the initial SAS release for the installation. Developed models and trend projections of future workload impacts on operating system and online system performance. Developed capacity plans, monitored the performance and tuned the operating system environments when migrating from MVS/SP to MVS/XA.

Conducted presentations for all management levels. Selected topics, gathered supporting data and statistics and used SAS/GRAPH to produce statistical visual aids for use in these presentations.

April 1981 to September 1984 - Systems Engineer - EDS, Dallas, Texas

Maintained the performance of databases. Developed an online Operations Accounting Report System (OARS). Modified user-written SMF/RMF programs that extract data to support the migration from MVS/SP to MVS/XA.
